Special Equipment Explanations

Removal removable gooseneck trailer RGN trailers are utilized when the cargo is wheeled or tracked, and can be driven onto the body of the trailer. This is achieved by the driver, detaching the front gooseneck from the body of the trailer and pulling forward the wheel or tract cargo, then can be driven pushed or towed onto the trailer from ground level. Typically, RGN’s have low clearance and can carry taller and heavier freight. We have access to multiple types RGN’s with several axles to handle extremely heavy cargo. Permits can be pulled to carry taller and wider cargo as needed.

Stretch, step decks and stretch flatbed trailers a lever on the chassis of the trailer can be pulled by the driver to extend the length of the flatbed or step deck platform to accommodate longer cargo. In most cases the cargo being hauled needs to be self-supporting as when the extension is out, there is a void or a gap in between the two platforms that requires the cargo to be created or supported accordingly for over the road transit.

Landolls and Ramp trucks. Landolls and ramp trucks have a hydraulic piston that maneuvers and angles the bed of the trailer to the ground in order for cargo to be winched, driven, towed or pushed on to the trailer. Hydraulic trailers can be utilized for moving fork trucks and, smaller pieces of equipment as well as most autos. Landolls and ramp trucks can also be used to ground ocean freight containers.

Flatbed trailers with a Moffett forklift for offloading at job sites or facilities without a loading dock. The forklift is attached to the rear of the trailer and lifted off the ground for over the road transit. Upon pick up and delivery, the forklift can be utilized to load from the side or the rear, and most Moffett forklifts are off-road capable and can deliver to hard-to-reach areas. Other standard forklifts are unable to deliver to. These are commonly used in lumberyards and construction sites as well as for large crated machinery. Moffett’s can also be used for residential deliveries.

Conestoga trailers, flatbed trailer or step deck trailer with a covered tarp on rails in channels that run the length of the trailer. The canopy tarp can be retracted or extended to cover the entire trailer or part of the load. These trailers are typically used to move sensitive machinery or cargo that cannot bear the weight of the tarps while traveling over the road. Conestogas provide a weatherproof capsule for the cargo to be safely transported.

Double Drop and lowboy trailers. This equipment is specially designed to carry tall loads over the road. They are typically low to the ground and have minimal ground clearance. Hydraulics can be used to adjust the height of the trailer up or down several inches. Permits can be pulled for extra tall, wide and heavy cargo as needed. Double drop and lowboy trailers have a well in the middle of the trailer where the cargo usually sits there’s a small platform on the tail and on the nose of the trailer where smaller cargo can be secured as well.

Flatbed Trailers. Most common flatbed trailers are 48 feet and 53 feet long. Flatbeds can be used to transport a variety of items, including building materials, machinery, and oversized cargo. Here are some things to consider about these trailers:
Weight capacity: 48 and 53 foot flatbed trailers can carry 46,000–48,000 pounds. The exact weight capacity depends on the route and whether the weight is distributed evenly across the trailer.
Common uses: Flatbed trailers are used for a variety of transportation purposes, including:
- Construction: Transporting building materials like lumber, concrete, steel, and roofing materials.
- Agriculture: Hauling farming equipment like tractors, combine harvesters, and livestock feed.
- Oversized cargo: Transporting large tanks, oversized machinery, and wind turbine component
- Shipping containers: Transporting standard 20’ & 40’ ocean and intermodal shipping containers that can be easily loaded and unloaded with forklifts or cranes. High cube ocean containers would require a step-deck trailer due to the height.
- General freight: Transporting goods that are difficult to load into an enclosed trailer and require side loading and unloading.
